Warrender Baths Club is delighted to announce a restructuring with effect from September 2016 to enable focus to centre on being the most successful Age and Youth programme in Scotland.

This change has been prompted by an increased and focussed investment from Scottish Swimming in Performance hubs around the country, with strong links to universities which are investing significant funding into performance sport.

The Club believes that this is the time to deliver a new vision of allowing our swimmers to be the very best they can be, whilst promoting lifelong skills and values and producing the best athletes for progression into university or performance programmes around the country.

From September, Head Coach Laurel Bailey’s role will be redefined and she will step back from coaching the Club’s Elite squad in order to head the overall coaching programme and swimming pathway throughout the whole Club. Laurel will write and implement a structured training plan to ensure consistency in standards and delivery right across the Club. She will mentor and develop coaches at all levels and continue to play an important part in the training of coaches within Scotland.

Newly appointed ‘lead coaches’ at each level of the Club will oversee the squads in their divisions and report to Laurel, working closely with her as Head Coach. Laurel will also lead in developing existing relationships with key stakeholders, including Scottish Swimming and Sportscotland.

The restructuring will see the appointment of Kostas Kalitsis as Lead Coach of the Club’s most senior squad. Kostas has a wealth of qualifications and experience, having achieved outstanding results from the Junior Elite and National Girls squads over the last 2 years, and he will also continue his work with the Club’s Masters programme.

Further information will be distributed over the coming months, including an updated Club training schedule for the new season which will involve changes to training times for the squads after the summer holidays. Laurel will deliver a series of squad meetings to explain the exciting new plans in person.

Scottish Swimming has been dealing with a growing number of mobile phone related incidents over the past year, with a significant increase of incidents in the last month. In the main these incidents are taking place in changing rooms, many of them are becoming police matters and the repercussions are significant for those members involved.

Scottish Swimming has a very clear Mobile Phone Policy. In particular the Policy states that there are ‘mobile phone free’ areas which include Changing Rooms, Toilets and Showers ‐ the policy is clear that there is a zero tolerance approach to use of phones in these areas. The policy applies during all club activities including training and competition, regardless of the venue.

Can you please ensure all members are aware of this policy and have signed up to it. Importantly can you make sure parents are also aware of the policy and the growing issue that we are facing, the consequences for their children can be significant if the rules are broken.
